And a Happy Friday to you. Since it’s a Good News Friday, I will ignore the not-great sports news in my life Thursday, with the Nets losing again to Miami (Ray Allen has to retire at some point, right? Damn I’m sick of him making shots to beat my team) and the Jets once again refusing to help their offense (where have I heard that before? Oh yeah, in my own head every year of the Rex era).
Anyway, three great Good News Friday items today. First up, an incredible story of man’s best friend being reunited with his family 18 months after Hurricane Sandy.
From New York magazine comes the story of Reckless, the pooch who escaped through a broken front gate in Chuck and Elicia James’ house.
The James’ are still living in a hotel with their three kids, amazingly, because of the damage done to their New Jersey home in the storm.
With their daughter’s 10th birthday coming up, they went to the Monmouth County SPCA office recently and saw Reckless.
“I didn’t know it was him right away. They fattened him up so much,” said Chuck. “My wife said, ‘That’s our dog. That’s Reckless.’ We both got teary-eyed. The dog was licking us to death, he was jumping three feet in the air. He was home. He knew the ordeal was over.”
What a great reunion. Even in a disaster story like Hurricane Sandy, you occasionally get a happy ending.
**Next up, you know I’m a complete romantic fool when it comes to marriage proposals. Well this is a very cool video involving two proposals that awesome singer Sara Bareilles helped arrange. She made a four-minute video, set to her song “I Choose You”, following two couples from the decision to get married, through the proposal, and she literally sees it all happen.
Very, very cool of Sara to do this.
**And finally, a beautiful singer you’ve probably never heard. My father sent me this video and I loved it; Sister Cristina Scuccia 25 years old, is Sicilian but lives in Milan and is an Orsolina nun of the Holy Family.
She went on Italy’s version of “The Voice” earlier this year and blew away the judges with this Alicia Keys song. You know, you just don’t see nuns singing pop songs on TV every day.
Could she be the next Susan Boyle? Who knows. But she’s got a heck of a beautiful voice. Enjoy…
